the calm before the storm: this week in marathon...
I should have suspected when perusing my training plan and noting how light last week was that it meant something bad was looming on the horizon - like running, oh, 9 miles (with 7 miles at marathon pace) on a regular old Thursday. The second half of this training plan gets real ugly, real fast.
Monday: rest (not even derby!)

last week in marathon training
in which I accidentally run 17 miles, and real life tries to interfere with my schedule
Monday: non-rest - cross-training thanks to derby practice
Tuesday: 4 treadmill miles with 2 at marathon pace (post-work, pre-soccer)
Wednesday: a.m. - 5.3 miles with 5 strides, p.m. - derby practice
Thursday: a very creative approach to 6 miles of hills - ran to the gym before work, 45-minute hill program...

Tuesday: 7 miles of hill-ish-ness (still super worried I am cheating and my route isn’t hilly enough)
Wednesday: one-mile time trial, cross-training: derby practice
Thursday: 4 treadmill miles with 4 strides

This site is lovely in that it aggregates all of your race times, lists your pace, let’s you easily compare how you’ve done. It is not lovely in that it tries to pit you against strangers (RIVALS!) who have run the same races as you.

Tuesday - 5 outside miles of “hills” (I’m really worried it wasn’t hilly enough and I inadvertently cheated)
Wednesday - 3.5 outside miles - I decided to pretend I remembered the distance prescribed for today (which I was convinced was 3) - be all impressed with myself that I exceeded it - and then realize I was supposed to run 4....
